Ketchy Shuby, from South African restaurateur Jamie Mulholland (also a co-founder of Surf Lodge in Montauk, NY), is now open in SoHo.
Ketchy Shuby feels like an island oasis—warm and inviting, with rattan furnishings and lush greenery, where Mulholland’s beliefs of acceptance and relaxed vibes are felt throughout. The menu from Culinary Director and James Beard Honoree, Sean Olnowich, is anchored in bright, flavorful dishes with something for everyone.
The menu is 50% vegetarian, while the other half is anchored in modern classics. Look for things like House Made Potato Chips with créme fraiche, trout roe, and everything bagel spice; Local Whipped Ricotta with charred tomato and fresh sourdough; and Roasted Eggplant with tahini and pomegranate.
Other offerings include PEl Mussels in a red curry coconut broth with lemongrass and ginger; Farm Lettuces and sprouts with heirloom tomatoes, fennel pollen, and lemon tahini; Rigatoni Vodka with stracciatella and calabrian chili; Delicata Squash with whipped lemon ricotta and pepitas; and Korean Fried Chicken Sando with gochujang aioli and house kimchi pickles.
The space revolves around a tree, and uses a water-like color palette with green tones to transport guests into a natural oasis.
