Details:

Kopitiam, a popular Malaysian snack shop, is spreading its wings with a much larger space on East Broadway on the Lower East Side. The restaurant is light and airy with a sharing table, counter seating by the window with smaller tables in the back. The restaurant is offering a mix of sweet and savory dishes. The adventure begins with Spicy Deep Fried Duck Tongue, Otak Otak (grilled fish cake in banana leaves), Nasilemak (Malaysia’s national dish made with coconut rice topped with fried anchovies, peanuts and a hard-boiled egg), and Ikanbakar (char-grilled stingray with dried shrimp, okra and a spicy sauce). On the sweet side, look for tapioca rice balls with coconut milk syrup, thousand layer butter cake with cinnamon, and Malaysian mochi infused with lychee and rose petal. Assorted Malaysian-style coffee and tea drinks are available, hot or cold. Kopitiam will keep you guessing, which is a good thing. See more
