There are very few places that can put a smile on your face. Little Muenster is one of them. This tiny sandwich shop on the Lower East Side is serving up grilled cheese sandwiches that are big on flavor.
Each sandwich arriving on its own wooden tray with a side of crispy chips. We tried the toasted peasant bread with white American, bacon and tomato. It was crunchy and juicy, oozing with cheese and downright delicious. I savored every bite and ate every chip. And for $7.95 it is quite a steal. You can also get a side of terrific tomato soup, that is rich and savory, without using any milk for $1.25.
The soup alone is worth a visit. You'll also find grilled cheeses made with gouda and pastrami ($9.25); manchego and anchovy with caramelized onion ($9), and muenster with butternut squash and sage brown butter ($8.75). For dessert, try some marscapone and ricotta with wild blueberry jam or a chocolate chip cookie.
If you are looking for the ultimate comfort food, Little Muenster is a pure joy!
