Cititour Review:
Sometimes I crave good old fashioned home-cooking, where it's ok to eat a bit of grease, as long as it tastes good. Little Poland fits the bill. This neighborhood restaurant has been around more than 20 years and looks as if it hasn't changed one bit. Polish waitresses mill about and wear a smile as they work the steam tables loading plates with beef goulash, stuffed cabbage and kielbasy while cooking up inch thick burgers on the grill. A dish of pork schnitzel comes topped with a sunnyside up egg and a large helping of egg noodles. There are also blintzes, perogi and homemade stews. And you'll be hard-pressed to find any item on the menu over ten bucks. I opted for a bowl of Potato Lamb soup ($4.25) and a side of potato pancakes ($6.95). Let me start out by saying that the soup itself can serve as a meal. What arrived was a bowl of potato soup topped with four or five lamb chops. It reminded me of a dish my dad used to make where the lamb, gristle and all, would become so tender it would simply fall off the bone. At this point my waitress arrived with a stack of four potato pancakes, each one could easily fill a plate, along with some apple sauce. You could tell they were fresh out of the pan and divinely greasy. I managed to pack down two of them, but opted to take the rest home in a doggy bag. Now, it's back to some salads for a few days after some unrestrained gratification. But, it was worth it!
