Two years after opening as a slice shop, Manero’s Pizza in Little Italy has transformed into a proud red sauce joint for both food and drink. The original pizza shop was named after Tony Manero, John Travolta’s character in Saturday Night Fever who frequents the Bensonhurst pizzeria Lenny’s and struts down the street with a double decker slice. That’s the old school style pizzeria Roman Grandinetti grew up visiting. Now, he and his partners, Nima Garos and Koorosh Bakhtiar (owners of JaJaJa Group) have opened Manero’s transporting guests back to that disco era.

Expect dishes like Momma Regina’s Meatballs and Richard’s Steak Pizzaiola ($37), an old school dish Grandinetti’s dad used to enjoy. Starters include a Mortadella Plate with pizza oven focaccia bread, Whipped Ricotta with pesto, Baked Little Neck Clams in a red wine sauce and Crispy Mushroom Rice Balls served open face with a dollop of ricotta. Diners can also sink their teeth into stacked Eggplant Parm ‘lasagna’ and signature pizzas.

Disco-era inspired drinks come with cheeky names the Tony Manero (Caffo Bitter, cocchi, bay primo, love potion), Debbie Harry (pineapple tequila, red peps, turmeric), and the Sophia Loren (Caffo Bitter, Chartreuse, demerara). A dedicated Negroni section will include three variations as a natural Italian-American option, including Coco Amore and FernetAboutIt. And to help guests continue to strut longer at the bar, pizza will be served by the slice to soak up the drinks.

An outdoor patio garden will be open in warmer months for chess and card games– “just like Pa’ used to play with his friends.”
