To see and be seen in the West Side’s newest hotspot, head to Marble Lane in the Dream Hotel Downtown. Clusters of shimmering lights lead the way to the restaurant in the lower level of the hotel’s lobby. Beneath the lights, the room is usually packed with a hip crowd ready to head upstairs to the hotel’s popular PhD lounge.
Dinner is lovely, starting out with my favorite, a basket of deliciously seasoned flatbreads. I always make sure to order a glass of prosecco, although the Edelweiss cocktail, garnished with pomegranate seeds is amazing, with a light, sweet taste. The wine list at Marble Lane is also surprisingly affordable; starting in the $45 range.
There is plenty to enjoy for the seafood lover, such as yellowfin tuna tartare ($17), calamari ($18), and peekytoe crab cakes ($18). The crispy sweetbreads with artichoke and truffles is great. I chose the roasted beet salad ($16) to start. It’s very nice, not too bold yet satisfying. There is also a raw bar section offering lobster, clams, and tasty colossal shrimp.
As Marble Lane is primarily a steak house, there is an extensive prime cut steak portion of the menu, including a pepper crusted center cut filet ($45) and cowboy bone-in ribeye ($65). Regular entrees include the absolutely delicious olive crusted salmon with fennel and fava beans ($28) and the seared diver scallops ($27). Scallops are my favorite dish and here they are phenomenal served with spicy cashews.
The food is almost as impressive as the music, which is played by a DJ in corner of the room, on the level above the restaurant, and will have you dancing in your seat by the end of the meal. While nearly everything about dinner at Marble Lane is enjoyable, the mission to the bathroom is one part of the dining experience I would be quick to alter. Located past the lobby's elevator bank, through another room and down a winding staircase, it’s a journey I think most people would rather avoid.
Overall, the dining experience at Marble Lane is an enjoyable one. Though a meal here is far from cheap, a foot in the door guarantees a good time.
