Cititour Review:

You don't come across a new Jewish deli every day.  Of course, there are New York institutions like the 2nd Avenue Deli, which is no longer on 2nd Avenue, and Katz's Deli on Houston Street where the pastrami is piled high.  But you might not think of Hoyt Street in Brooklyn's Boerum Hill neighborhood.

But that's where you'll find the Mile End Delicatessen, a tiny spot that  fits just four tables and an equal number of seats at it butcher block counter. It's behind the counter where Montreal native Noah Bernamoff and his crew perform their magic.  The star of the menu is delicious smoked brisket (and please don't call it pastrami) which has people lining up out the door even in 30 degree temperatures.

The prime Angus is given a healthy coating of garlic, black pepper and spices.  It's then cured for more than a week before heading to the smoker.  What arrives on your plate is some of the most tender, tastiest brisket you'll ever try.   You can purchase it stacked between two slices of Orwasher's Jewish rye and slathered with mustard, or make your own sandwiches (7 oz for $9 or 14 oz for $16).  We bought the large and had enough leftover for a delicious midnight snack.

Also on the menu you'll find the Ruth Wilensky ($7); a pressed salami sandwich on an onion roll, homemade matzo ball soup ($6.50) and sour pickles ($1.50).  There's also poutine ($8/$11); french fries topped with melted cheese, smoked meat and gravy.  It's both decadent and delicious.  We topped off our meal with some grape jelly doughnuts served warm and coated with cinnamon sugar.

Mile End is also offering breakfast and an "all day" brunch on weekends.  We think it's  worth traveling a few miles to get to.
