You might walk past NR on the Upper East Side without even noticing, but don’t. You might miss out on something truly special. From the outside, frosted windows conceal what's awaiting inside - a Japanese-style speakeasy with killer cocktails and Asian bites. Drinks arrive in everything from skulls and Victoria vases to carved out peppers. Some are infused with smoke, while others are lit up with flames. A Cucumber cocktail gets spicy tequila and lime. Grapefruit mixes mezcal and elderflower. There are classics like a true Hemingway Daquiri to The Rattlesnake crafted with bourbon, absynthe, Demerara, lime and egg white. It's quite good and boozy. The mixologists at NR are true masters. As for the food, look for an assortment of oysters on tha half shell to steamed buns with pork belly and beer-steamed mussels with, yes, cotton candy. Two types of ramen are also offered. But it's the drinks that will have you coming back for more. >>
