Cititour Review:
In need of some adventure, I stumbled upon New Fulin Kwok in Sunset Park's booming Chinatown. There are hundreds of items on the menu, most of which I have never seen or tasted, like the sauteed jelly fish, razor clam omelet, and pork intestine with Fuzhou sauce over rice. And while some of those items I may never try, the ones we did sample were fresh, inventive and in most cases delicious. The meat stuffed rice ball soup ($2.50) was a little too gooey for my liking... think rice meatballs that stick to the roof of your mouth. But the oxtail noodle soup ($4.50) is the best I've tasted; thin slices of oxtail in a rich broth and tons of noodles. Crab soup with cabbage (6.95) arrives with pieces of the fresh crustaceans swimming in a clear broth with Chinese cabbage and ginger. It was delicious in its simplicity, but be prepared to do some work to extract the meat from the crab. We also tried the beef eye round ($4.95) thinking we were going to get a piece of steak, instead what arrived were thinly sliced pieces of cured beef. For a main course we enjoyed a piping hot plate of beef ribs ($9.95) and Lobster with Hundred Flavors (MP), a perfectly prepared steamed lobster (and easy to eat) served with a wonderfully fragrant dipping sauce. At this point we were thoroughly stuffed and pleasantly surprised by the bill. Maybe because we drank tea. There's no beer or wine sold, but you can bring your own. Dessert consisted of watermelon slices which hit the spot on a warm summer day.
