Cititour Review:

Meant to be a place to support, network, and meet the next generation of film industry professionals, the New York Film Academy Cafe is a conspicuous spot in Astor Place across the Astor Place Cube (a.k.a. the Alamo sculpture).

Outside, red and white Chinese lanterns gaily decorate the outside of the cafe. It’s a pretty well-lit open area, perfect for watching the rushing crowd at Cooper Union area. Inside, it’s a nice albeit strange mix of wicker and aluminum seats and black leather couches. The tables all have New York Film Academy brochures for those interested in a film career; their tuition for film school is cheekily included in the menu, which is otherwise not very inspired. The staff are friendly and some even remember the regulars by name.

The coffee is reasonably priced, but not remarkable. They also sell standard cafe fare: pastries, cupcakes, yogurt, etc. Students generally populate the space, which offers free wifi. It’s a good spot for conversations, for an afternoon of writing (make sure to bring your iPod) or to get a bite to eat before watching a movie. All in all worth a look, and if you're not down for coffee, then perhaps consider the $17,000 film school tuition.
