The Spanish Diner at Hudson Yards is a tribute to the classic diners of Spain and simplicity is the key. Chef José Andrés has created a menu full of delicious surprises. It begins with pressed sandwiches, called Bocatas. We tried one made with pressed cured Menorcan sausage, mahón cheese and honey. It was sweet, savory and out of this world, and at ten bucks a steal. Another excellent choice are the breaded pork cutlets stuffed with ibérico ham and cheese oozing from the center. It arrives with a side of french fries, roasted red peppers, and two perfectly-prepared fried eggs with runny yolks. Spanish flavors run deep in other dishes like granny's croquetas de pollo (chicken), assorted cheeses with fig marmalade, Ibérico pork meatballs, squid ink stew and macaroni with pork and tomato sauce. In fact, there are so many items on the menu, the hardest part will be choosing. And of course there's lots of wine and sangria to help you through that meal.
