After running a successful pop-up called Him (Korean for Strength) from an East Village bar, Chef Jae Lee is opening his first solo, brick-and-mortar location. Nowon, named after his hometown in South Korea, is offering modern and creative Korean fare meant to be shared. Look for things like Honey Butter Tater Tots with labneh and seaweed seasoning; Black Sesame Caesar with romaine hearts, wild sesame leaves, rice pearls, and parmesan; Octopus & Spam Fried Rice with bone marrow butter, dill, and lemon; and Chopped Cheese Rice Cakes with beef, secret spice and soy pickled jalapenos. Nowon will also serve Lee's popular Dry Aged Double Cheeseburger with ‘murican cheese and kimchi mayo, and dill pickle (from 5-7PM daily). A selection of beer, natural wine and soju cocktails will soon be available. Diners can also expect a lively nightlife vibe influenced by 90's hip-hop culture.
