Cititour Review:

Omai will instantly appeal to a more refined taste. The small space is clean and chic, while flickering candlelight offers a touch or romance.  Its stark white walls providing a pure slate on which the flavors of Omai are served.  And while it's not the cheapest place to find Vietnamese food, it is some of the freshest.

The menu borders on the divine as the flavors of lemongrass and basil jump out at you.  The beef rolls with sesame seeds are livened up with a chili lime sauce.  Grilled calamari salad sprinkled with fresh mint and a tamarind vinaigrette also makes for a delicious appetizer.

Fresh seafood (and a seductive ginger chicken) in delightful curries dominate the entrees, yet I always find myself leaning toward Pho when I crave Vietnamese.  Bun Ca is one of my favorites. Pieces of grilled tilapia, so soft even an infant could tear through, rest sweetly on a delicate bed of rice noodles in a mildly spiced sauce. The Omai Salad made with vermicelli, shrimp, BBQ pork, peanuts, and crispy spring roll is another winner.

With its diligent yet discreet waitstaf and crisp wine list, Omai offers a uniquely satisfying experience in the heart of Chelsea.
