Modern Mexican is the theme at Oxido in the Flatiron District. The space has a nice vibe with some counter seating and well-spaced booths. The restaurant boasts that all of its food is made from scratch. Eight to ten bucks buys two tacos or a burrito bowl. Start with a choce of protein; grilled garlic steak, chicken poblano, chile-lime pork carnitas (braised pork), Mexican beef curry or mushroom. Then fill 'em up with things like brown or basmati rice, pinto beans with smoked bacon, braised veggies with toasted cumin and a refreshing corn relish. Seven different sauces are also available ranging from a mild salsa to Oxido's fiery "killa" sauce. For a light snack, try some guacamole and chips. It's surprisingly good.
