Cititour Review:
Bay Ridge, known for its Middle Eastern restaurants, has a new Turkish spot to call home. Pashazade is located on a sun-drenched corner of Third Avenue. Oversized windows, exposed brick and hardwood floors give this spot plenty of charm.
We loved the mixed appetizer plate with smoky babaganush, creamy humus, tabuleh salad chock full of bulgar and parsley, and cacik, a cold yogurt dip spiked with cucumbers and herbs. At $12.25 this could be a meal in itself. It was accompanied by traditional Turkish bread sprinkled with black caraway seeds and a bowl of mixed olives. Grape leaves stuffed with rice and pine nuts offered a hint of cinnamon, while a dish of deep-fried falafel had a proper crunch. Entrees include a number of different kebabs. The lamb kebabs proved to be a good choice with tender cubes of meat accompanied by grilled peppers and a roasted tomato. Other offerings include a baked lamb shank, stuffed cabbage and Turkish style pizzas called Lahmacun topped with ground lamb and vegetables.
It's always nice to finish off a meal with something sweet and Pashazade's walnut baklava does the trick. They're also serving kunefe made with shredded wheat, cheese and crushed walnuts, along with oven baked rice pudding.
But with any new restaurant there is always room for improvement. In this case, banquet-style chairs that are a bit uncomfortable and servers shadowing your every sip of water. But at least the servers are friendly and the food makes up for any shortcomings.
