Blink and you might miss it; Pinisi Bakery is often passed over by East Village residents. Yet little do they know that this tiny shop offers possibly the best red velvet, lavender and chocolate cakes, among other sinful goodies. Everything is baked on the premises of this family-owned enterprise.
Among all its offerings, Pinisi is mostly known for its red velvet cupcakes, which are moist and crumbly. The lavender cakes are a must, especially since this is an unusual cupcake flavor. The pistachio is also one of their bestsellers. All of them have the cake parts not too sweet to balance out the thick cream cheese frosting. At $3 for a cupcake and $5 for a slice of cake, the prices are worth it for their generous servings. They also have regular and diverse promotional offerings, such as a free cookie with a purchase of an iced coffee, or a new flavor of tea that’s in limited supply. For those who like to walk around the East Village neighbourhood, mark this street on your route and treat yourself.
I’ve been a regular customer of Pinisi for a while, and I have to admit that I’ve never seen the same cashier twice. But they always give friendly service, with recommendations that are on point. They cater weddings, birthday parties, and all special occasions, too. Just what the East Village needs—a friendly neighborhood, hole-in-the-wall bakery.
