From the outside looking in, you would think Preserve 24 had been there for years. The storefront facing Houston Street has a bow window with intricate woodwork. It looks as if it might have been salvaged from an old bakery. Inside, you will also find plenty of salvaged goodies from an old boat to artwork and instruments. There are also plans to bring in a chunk of a glacier from Greenland and preserve it for public view. Think of it as part restaurant, part social club and part exhibition space.

Preserve 24 is serving up some New York City favorites including Saxelby cheeses, a farmer's market salad and local pickled veggies. There is organic roasted chicken with salsa verde, a fennel-crusted veal chop and a 30-day dry aged porterhouse with smoked garlic marrow butter. Libations include the "Gunslinger" made with Pendleton Whiskey, sarsaparilla syrup, anisette and lime juice. There's also a large selection of rye and scotch whiskey. Not into the hard stuff? A complete coffee service, including by the pot, is also being offered.

Preserve 24 is grabbing from the past while looking to the future.
