If ever you needed proof that the salad revolution is here to stay it's at Roast Kitchen where young folks are lining up for bowls of fresh veggies served hot or cold. There are pre-made salads like the Mojo with cilantro, avocado and crispy onions in a sour orange vinaigrette, or the Gaucho made with vidalia onions, pomegranate seeds and crushed tortillas with ancho chipotle dressing and a splash of lime. You can beef it up with slices of spit-roasted top sirloin and other meats for a few extra bucks.
I like to build my own salad which is no easy fete given the choices here. I counted 30 different add-ons, not to mention the specials of the day. I went for brussel speouts that tasted like they had just been plucked from the farm, baby green spinach, cauliflower in orange, green and purple, julienned zucchini along with chunks of feta topped with an avocado vinaigrette. You can mix in grains or jasmine rice. I picked organic quinoa. It all rang up at around eight bucks (without meat).
Roast Kitchen can get pricey if you add on too many things, but still makes for a healthy, satisfying and affordable meal.
