Cititour Review:

STK's newest outpost - STK Out - resembles an upscale version of Shake Shack, but that's where the similarities end.  It's located in the plaza of the Grace Building on Avenue of the Americas with outdoor seating for about a hundred or so.   It's just steps awa from the STK's swanky Midtown restaurants.  While inside, men is suits could be seen chowing down on thick steaks, here the common folk are left to find satisfiaction win a burger and maybe a side of truffle fries.

I sampled the STK Burger.  While it's a nice thick patty, I couldn't get over the feeling that it was popped out of a mold somewhere.  The meat was also a tad rubbery.  Danny Meyer has no worries; at least not yet.  It's topped with a layer of non-descript cheese.  I think it was swiss, but I'm really not sure.  It had absolutely no flavor.  I did enjoy the crunchy pickles and crisp lettuce slapped on top of it, but the brioche bun is a real dud.  For a $9 price tag, not even sexy models could save this burger.  On the other hand, my favorite part of the meal were the sweet potato tater tots.  They arrived crispy with just the right amount of salt and sweetness.  I could pop 'em all day.

The menu at STK Out also features an Old School Burger  ($10) served with a red wine honey mustard, a Turkey Burger ($9) with lettucem tomato and onion, and a Chee Dog ($6) topped with kimchee.  Sandwiches, called Sammies, include STK with bell peppers and caramelied onions; seared tuna with arugula and avocado, and fried catfish with a zesty tarter sauce.  Mac 'n Cheese bites and flash fried pickles are among the sides being offered at $4 a pop.  STK is also selling sweets like watermelon ice, a birthday cake shake and something they call a monkey tail.  I'm thinking frozen banana, but I didn't ask.

For now, it's still too soon to say if this new concept will be a hit or just STK Out.
