Hi hon. How can I help feed you? That was the greeting we received from the friendly woman behind the counter of Sausage Inc, a new bite-size restaurant located a few blocks from Union Square. Here you'll find them grilling up a variety of homemade sausages in the front window.
There's the Blanco made with soft pork and basil; the Chipolata with chunks of pork and smoky chipotle, and the Farmer stuffed with beef, bacon and herbs. I found myself drawn to a sausage they call the "Thanksgiving." It's loaded up with turkey, stuffing and cranberries. And for a moment it really did feel like I was getting a bite from a delicious holiday meal.
You'll also find an artisan hot dog, and a veggie dog stuffed with spinach, potatoes, mushrooms and mozzarella. The links are all served on toasty baguettes and topped with caramelized mushrooms. You can also pick from a variety of sauces, including cilantro pesto, sweet chilly butter and smoked barbecue. Sides include fresh hand-cut fries and mac n cheese. Sausage Inc. is also serving up homemade sodas in flavors like passion fruit, raspberry and peach.
You can easily fill up on a hearty meal here for under ten bucks. Now that's a bargain.
