Cititour Review:

A bit of chaos ensued as Sticky's Finger Joint on West 8th Street in the Village opened its doors for the very first time.  It was a dry run for just 3 hours and the place was buzzing.  Unfortunately, the computer at the counter was not cooperating.  The cashier, who had a very cute accent, did her best to keep it all together printing out receipts and delivering them manually to the kitchen.  But what should have taken ten minutes turned into forty.

Co-owner and brianchild of Sticky's, Paul Abrahamian, worked the crowd religiously shaking hands and asking, "Has anyone ever owned a restaurant?  Yeah, me neither."  And it kinda showed.  Takeout orders were arriving without any packaging.  And then Paul turned to me, "Hey dude, are you a bus driver?  Am I close?"  No, dude you are not close.  Maybe it was my light blue shirt and dark blue slacks, or worse, maybe he  thought I was built like Ralph Cramden.  Anyway, I think it might be time to shed a few pounds.  I wanted to tell him I was here to review his joint, but kept it to myself.  I don't think I was the only writer there.  Two geeky looking guys with blue blazers, flannel shairts, striped ties and brown pants (oh, and thick-rimmed glasses) were snapping pictures, probably for some blog.  They kinda looked like they were straight out of the Blues Brothers.  It was an interesting crowd, young and filled with NYU hipsters.  But despite the rough start, this dude wasn't about to give up without first tasting those chicken fingers.  Afterall, where else can you find them topped with fish eggs.

When it was my turn to order I looked up at the blackboard and blurted out "one order of Wasabi and a Bada-Bing" which is stuffed with cheese.  A third fried version is simply called "The Finger." There are also grilled "naked" chicken fingers.

I was a bit nervous, hoping that the craziness in the front of the house was not  affecting the back of the house.  When my food arrived I quickly new I was in for a treat.  Sticky's wasabi fingers are simply stupendous.  The chicken is thick and juicy with a crispy, crunchy wasabi-infused panko crust sprinkled with sesame seeds and bright orange caviar.  It's a picture perfect dish and one that they should trademark immediatey!  Sticky's is also serving purple french fries, fried green beans and candied carrots called "Sticky Sticks."

Expect Sticky's to quickly be a go-to place, especially on weekends when they plan to stay open until 4am.  You heard it here first dude!
