Details:

The Bao on St. Marks Place pays homage to dumplings; little pockets of goodness served steamed or pan-fried. But this is no Chinatown dumpling shop where you are more likely to sit on stools and eat off of styrofoam plates. At The Bao, the space has more of a zen feel. Lots of wood and brick giving way to metal beams. Plump soup dumplings stuffed with pork and crab are the way to go here. Ours arrived piping hot and bursting with a flavorful broth. We also enjoyed an order of Dan Dan Noodles spiked with chili sauce. Chinese classics like Kung Po Chicken and Pork Fried Rice are also offered alongside Shanghai Pan Fried Noodles and Scallion Pancakes. - Thomas Rafael
