On any given day you will find swarms of people lining up for lobsters at this sprawling seafood mecca at Chelsea Market. Here's how it works. Customers first get a glimpse of the steamed lobsters that are piled high. Next, pick a size. The lobsters start at 1-1/2 pounds and go as high as 3 pounds or more. At $14.95 a pound, this can get a bit pricey. But no one seems to mind. Each person eventually walking away happily with their bright red lobsters bulging on the plate to the nearest seat and then it's time to watch the shells fly. It is truly a mouth-watering experience. You will find a lot more than just lobster at The Lobster Place. There is every type of fish imaginable, from swordfish and mahi mahi, bright and glistening, to blackfish, fluke and haddock. There are wild shrimp brought in daily from the Gulf of Mexico, along with blue crabs, Jonah crabs and King Crab from the Bearing Sea and the Gulf of Alaska. You will also find smoked trout and salmon, while the sushi bar offers some of the freshest sushi and sashimi you'll find anywhere, pre-packed and ready to enjoy. The Lobster Place also makes it a point to educate its customers about the sustainability of the fish it sells. Their website contains detailed information on fishing methods as well. -Thomas Rafael
