Cititour Review:

It’s that time of year again for oompah pahing and brosting and there’s no better place to do it then at The Standard Biergarten.  Located in the Meatpacking District and underneath the canopy of the Highline, it isn’t Munich, Germany, but for celebrating Oktoberfest it is an enjoyable place to be.

The way it works here is you need to buy your tickets first.  They’re $8.00 a piece and cover anything from beer, pretzels, and brats to cocktails, salads, and schnitzel.  Wurst, the German name for sausage, comes in six varieties.  My favorite is the standard pork bratwurst, but they also offer a berberwurst, which is basically a hotdog wrapped in bacon and cheese; a cheddar kurtwurst, a pork brat stuffed with cheese; a Bavarian weisswurst, made with veal and pork; a geflugulwurst, made with chicken, and a currywurst, a spicy pork brat with curry.

Tables fill up fast here and seating is open in the traditional Oktoberfest way, so be prepared to share with people you don’t know.  If you’re on your own you can always sit at one of the two bars, but you will miss out on the opportunity to have your table directly hooked up to the tap.  Or, if you’re bored from just sitting around and brosting try your hand at ping pong.

The Standard Biergarten is an entertaining spot to toast in the fall season, but it’s also opened year-round and in the winter months becomes glass enclosed for those who can’t seem to say good-bye to the mild weather.  Brost!
