The Tie Dye Pig has arrived in the Bay Ridge. Billed as a gastro-pub the space has a nice bar and lots of weathered wood. And while a psychadelic pig greets you at the door, it's really not what I'd call a barbecue joint. There are some porky items like a slab of hickory smoked bacon with maple sauce mixed in with Italian, Asian, Mexican and American dishes.
We stuck to the barbecue offerings, like a juicy short rib sandwich topped with a nice pear-mint slaw, and a beef burger with cheddar cheese oozing from the center topped with a tangle of arugula. Bison, turkey and lambe burgers are also available. 4-cheese mac-and-cheese had a crunchy bread crumb topping while herbed fries were nice and crisp with a touch of truffle oil.
Other offerings include pulled pork and fish taquitos, Cajun calamari, lollipop wings with a wasabi tempura sauce and spicy chicken pasta. The good news is, most dishes aside from a filet mignon, are priced well below twenty bucks. Dinner for three with four beers came in at under sixty dollars.
Tie Dye Pig has a nice assortment of beers, including some micro-brews. Sixpoint, Stella and Blue Moon are available on tap. Beers we tried were well-chilled and fresh. Service was friendly and prompt making for a nice dining experience. The restaurant is also kid friendly, making it a great spot for families that won't break the bank.
