Walking into Union Fare can be a bit overwhelming. The space is huge, spanning from 17th to 18th Street. But somehow they've managed to give it warmth and character. Enter on 18th Street and you'll find a sexy cocktail lounge with a white marble bar, illuminated orbs hovering above it. Go a little deeper and there's a raw bar, charcuterie station, draft beers and espresso bar. Think of it as a glammed up version of Eataly, minus the endless flow of tourists. Seating is available under strings of lights for large groups at wooden sharing tables, as well as romantic tables for two. The menu leans seafood with towers of oysters, clams and lobster prepared on the spot. Salmon tartare toast, an ahi tuna melt, baked razor clams and mussels & grits are also offered. Creative cocktails include, the Pan Am, made with gin, blueberry and a splash of bubbly. It's cool and refreshing, sort of like Union Fare itself. At a market next door, look for baked goods made fresh daily, wood-fired pizza and a gastrohall. - Thomas Rafael
