Cititour Review:

Chefs Ryan Angulo and Ian Alvarez have teamed up to open Victor, a wood-fired Mediterranean restaurant in the former Freek's Mill space in Gowanus. The menu is full of tantalizing small plates for sharing like Smoked Paprika Prawns with shallot, lime & almond “aioli” and Date Croquettes with manchego & macadamia nut. Oysters also make an appearance with a saffron mignonette and Baccalau with salt cod, gigante beans, capers and citrus.

Larger plates include Whole Fish with preserved orange and sesame gremoulata, Spiced Half Chicken with braised greens and Le Burger with comte, au poivre onions, cornichon and fries. On the sweeter side, there is Basque Cheesecake and Chocolate Budino with salted caramel.

A varied wine list is offered with bubbles, red, white, rose and orange varieties, along with cocktails like the Birds-of-Paradise with dark rum, cynar, pineapple & agave, and Byrrh Me! with byrrh, contratto bitters and prosecco.

Chefs Angulo and Alvarez, who met while working at Butter Channel in Carroll Gardens and later French Louie in Bourem Hill, have created a laid back atmosphere with the focus on bright and flavorful cuisine. Opening day is set for March 18th.
