I stumbled upon this spot while traveling to Dough Loco for some doughnuts.   It was closed (you have to get there early), but a few doors away is a small Caribbean restaurant.  Being that I rarely get to eat Caribbean food I decided to give it a try.  And I was glad I did.

Most people take out here, although there is a small counter area.  There were three things that piqued my interest.  First off, I love a good patty.  And the ones at Winston and Tee's hit the spot.  They have a flaky crust and are mildly spiced.  I bought two meat patties and had eaten both before I got to the subway a few blocks away to head home.  Once home, I shared my remaining two dishes with my wife and son.  One was jerk chicken.  The chicken was plentiful and packing plenty of heat.  The jerk sauce on top was sweet and tangy and oh so very good.  I wish I had asked for more sauce.  The oxtail stew was also terrific with the meat falling off the bone. It was accompanied by a nice helping of rice and beans. 

Other dishes include curry chicken and goat, cow feet and stewed peas.   They also make fish escovitch, a Jamaican dish that is kicked up a notch with Scotch Bonnets.   For dessert, there is potato pudding and coconut cake.  They also have traditional coconut pastry snacks called gizzada. 

Winston and Tee's might not be a gourmet spot, but it certainly hits the spot with homemade Caribbean fare.  Next time I'm in East Harlem, I'll be sure to stop in for some more of their delicious jerk chicken.
