Cititour Review:
Yuca Bar may be at the end of the alphabet in the listings of Alphabet City's many restaurants, but this sprightly newcomer – on the site of the late, lamented Leshko's – will be towards the top of the list for fans of "cocina Latina." Chef Ricardo Cardona has put together an appealing, flavorful menu of south-of-the border favorites at remarkably reasonable prices (all entrees fall well below the $20 mark). Of the many enticing starters, the lobster taquitos are a standout: a trio of soft tortillas encasing a well-spiced mixture of lobster meat, guacamole and black beans. The excellent grilled entrees allow you to have things your way – as you team up chicken breast, sirloin steak or salmon with one of a variety of condiments (ranging from a very kicky chipotle-accented chimichurri to a gentle corn relish) and a side dish (including traditional rice and beans, crispy tostones or sweet plantains). Chocoholics will have no argument with a dense, fudgy chocolate "tart" accented by a dollop of tamarind ice cream, while other sweet tooths will gravitate toward banana bread pudding or classic churros. Or maybe you should just finish the meal with another margarita or glass of sangria.
