Just off the Coney Island boardwalk and down the block from Nathan's you'll find some finger-licking Kansas City-style barbeque. Chef Chris McGee, a veteran of Blue Smoke and Jean-Georges, has rolled into Beer Island with his very own BBQ truck complete with smokers. The food is served up picnic-style with paper plates at tables perched on the sand with umbrellas (so leave your dress shoes at home). We tried a rack of what turned out to be some of the tastiest fall-off-the-bone ribs I've had in quite awhile. They were nice and smoky. A tangy homemade bbq sauce was equally as good. Ribs are served up with fresh-cut fries, crunchy cole slaw, baked beans and large pickle slices. The truck, which has a very friendly staff, also serves up burgers and hot dogs, pulled pork and chicken, along with smoked brisket at very reasonable prices. Wash it down with an ice cold brew from the nearby Beer Island and you're set. Beers range from Coney Island Lager and Yuengling on tap to bottles of Guinness Stout and Chinay Anjong alongside Bud and Papst Blue Ribbon. Try a slice of watermelon for dessert. Really, who could ask for anything more after a nice day at the beach, or a night on the town in Coney Island!
