The New York Jets were established in 1960 as the Titans of New York. When the franchise changed ownership in 1963 they changed their name as well to the New York Jets. Going by the nickname of Gang Green the Jets became the only New York professional sports team to have green as their primary color. The Jets shared a home with the New York Mets at Shea Stadium for 19 years before moving to Giants Stadium and ultimately Metlife Stadium in 2010 sharing both New Jersey homes with the New York Giants. The Jets Gang Green nickname went undeserved many years as they have been a fairly unsuccessful franchise only winning one Super Bowl since their birth.

However, that Super Bowl would change the game of football forever as the Jets were 18 point underdogs and beat the Baltimore Colts marking the first time an American Football League won a Super Bowl. The Jets were lead by their quarterback Joe Namath who famously guaranteed the victory despite being heavy underdogs.
