The New York Knicks or Knickerbockers were founded in 1946. The term Knickerbockers represents the type of rolled up pants that the original Dutch settlers of New York wore. While not many teams are named after a type of pants, the name has become synonymous with the city of New York. The Knicks however have only been able to win two championships since their birth. Those titles came in 1970 and 1973 respectively. The early to mid 1970’s were definitely the golden era of Knicks basketball.

The Knicks home has always been and still is Madison Square Garden, often noted as the worlds most famous arena. Some of the greatest Knicks players to ever wear the blue and orange are Walt “Clyde” Frazier, Willis Reed, Earl “The Pearl” Monroe and Patrick Ewing. In recent years a new era of Knicks basketball has emerged headlined by perennial All Star and Brooklyn native Carmelo Anthony. The Knicks in 2013 were valued as the most valuable NBA franchise at $1.1 billion by Forbes magazine.
