Founded in 1967 as the New Jersey Americans the Nets would go through many name and location changes before calling Brooklyn their home in 2012. The New Jersey Americans took the name of the New York Nets until 1977 when they became the more familiar New Jersey Nets until their afore mentioned relocation to Brooklyn in 2012. The Nets have never won an NBA championship since joining the NBA in 1976.
The now Brooklyn Nets have a rejuvenated fan base and countrywide appeal as people wear the white and black apparel and flock to the $1 billion dollar Barclays Center where 11 subway lines and the LIRR run in the area. Since this move a few miles from Newark to Brooklyn the Nets have seen their team value increase 48% and there is a buzz back to the borough of Brooklyn that hasn’t been there since the departure of the Brooklyn Dodgers in 1957.
