The New York Rangers were founded in 1926 during the birth of the NHL and are one of the original 6 professional hockey teams. The Rangers share the same color scheme as the New York Giants with their blue, red and white jerseys. The Rangers since their birth in 1926 have called Madison Square Garden in Manhattan their home. The Rangers received their name from their owner George Lewis “Tex” Richard as people often nicknamed and referred to the future team as Tex’s Rangers.
The Rangers have won 4 Stanley Cups in 1927, 1932, 1939 and 1993. By winning the Stanley Cup in 1927 it made the Rangers the first American team to win the Stanley Cup in NHL history. Some of the greatest Rangers are Wayne Gretzky, Mark Messier and Brian Leetch.
