Perhaps the most iconic team in professional sports history are the New York Yankees who were originally founded as the Baltimore Orioles in 1901. In 1903 they became the New York Highlanders and played 9 years in the Polo Grounds located in Harlem. They would move once again but for good to the Bronx, New York in 1913 and were then renamed the Yankees. Since 1913 the Yankees have won 27 World Series championships making them the most winningest team in baseball history. The Yankees go by the nickname the Bronx Bombers and for short are just simply called the Yanks.

From 1923-2009 the Yankees played at the original Yankee Stadium also known as “The House That Ruth Built.” In 2009 a new stadium was built across the street from the old one and while it lacks the history of the original, it’s still largely considered to be one of the best stadiums in baseball. Some of the greatest Yankees of all time are Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig, Joe DiMaggio, Mickey Mantle, Mariano Rivera and Derek Jeter.
