The cost of being stuck in New York City gridlock is going up. The Taxi and Limosine Commission reportedly approving a plan to double the amount that's charged when a taxi sits idle to 40 cents a minute. That's expected to boost the average fare by a buck. Enjoy the wait!

This year's vendy award went to Samiul Haque Noor from "Sammy's Halal" (73rd Street and Broadway, Queens). Sammy winning honors for his Halal chicken, lamb & beef over rice, along with his award winning attitude. According to the nomination, "The spices on (Sammy's) chicken explode in your mouth and leave you coming back for more."

Runnerups included Piedad "the Arepa Lady" Cano (Roosevelt Ave between 78th & 79th Street, Queens), Tex-Mex style tacos and burritos from the Vendley Brothers (Wooster & Prince Streets, Soho) and Thiru "Dosa Man" Kumar (Washington Square South and Sullivan Street, Greenwich Village)

CBGB Loses Its Lease, NYC Loses a Legend

It's fitting that Patti Smith offered the last rites or should we say final performance at this New York City legend. CBGB & OMFUG (which stands for Country, Bluegrass and Blues and Other Music for Uplifting Gormandizers) was the place where punk began. The place where The Ramones got its start, along with Debbie Harry and Iggy Pop. And where countless others left their mark, mostly on the bathroom wall. And it's not just CBGB, soaring rents are forcing other clubs to shut down or leave the city. Some are migrating to places like Williamsburg, and in the case of CBGB all the way to Vegas.
