Brooklyn's Fifth Avenue near Barclays Center to the Prospect Expressway offers an eclectic mix of cultural attractions, trendy eateries, cafés lounges. Now add Fleur to the mix, an upscale Shanghai restaurant brought to life by the team behind HUPO, a Michelin-recommended spot in Long Island City,
Fleur promises to redefine Chinese dining in Brooklyn. The restaurant’s head chef, Qingkui Feng, hails from an illustrious culinary lineage. With over 40 years of experience, Chef Feng draws inspiration from his father, a chef at Shanghai's famed Jinjiang Hotel, an icon of Chinese culinary artistry. At Fleur, his mission is clear: to deliver a dining experience that marries tradition with sophistication, setting it apart from other Chinese eateries in the city.
Stepping into Fleur feels like you are being transported to the golden age of Shanghai. The décor evokes the city’s rich cultural heritage, blending vintage posters and striking wall art with rich wooden accents and plush red carpets. Crystal chandeliers add a touch of glamour, creating an atmosphere that is both nostalgic and contemporary.
At the heart of Fleur lies its expertly curated menu, crafted with precision and creativity. One standout dish is the Chicken Dumplings, which elevate a familiar favorite into a celebration of flavor. Handmade wrappers encase a filling of tender chicken and crisp water chestnuts, delivering a delightful burst of flavor with every bite.
The Scallion Oil Stir-Fried Shredded Eel is another must-try. Prepared with a house-special sauce, bamboo shoots, and garlic, the eel is stir-fried to achieve a melt-in-your-mouth texture. For a taste of opulence, guests can savor the Crispy Silver Anchovies, made with premium silver cod sourced from France. Traditionally a delicacy reserved for Shanghai's elite, the dish pairs crispy fried fish with a tangy house sauce.
Another must-try is the Salted Egg Yolk Braised Pork Meatball with a creamy yolk center; Duck Breast marinated with signature house sauce; Tangerine Peel Sauteed Prawns; and Shanghai Style Crispy Noodles with Shrimp and Crab Roe.
Fleur’s handmade pastries are also rare finds. The Seaweed Crispy Pastry blends seaweed, sesame seeds, sunflower seeds, almonds, walnuts, tangerine peel, osmanthus, and a touch of honey for a complex, crunchy treat, while the Fortune Pastry offers a savory mix of red fermented bean curd, pork fat, and scallions.
Fleur promises not only memorable dishes but also a culinary journey that pays homage to Shanghai’s rich heritage.
Fleur is located at 392 5th Ave, Brooklyn, NY. For more information, visit fleur.cafe
