Le Méridien New York, Fifth Avenue is the new home of Allora Ristorante, a new Italian restaurant by Chef-owner Elio Albanese (Antica Ristorante) in NoMad.
The signature dish is Corzetti, a type of pasta dating back to medieval times. The circular pasta resembles hand-pressed coins. Back then noble families would brand the the pasta with their coat of arms. Today, elaborate wooden stamps are used to emboss custom patterns and designs. The northwestern Italian dish leans further into its Ligurian roots with a traditional walnut sauce.
Then, grab your pasta scissors and dive into Elio’s now-famous take on the rustic Abruzzese recipe Maccheroni alla Mugnaia (Miller’s Wife Pasta). The dish is made from a 6-foot-long continuous loop of pasta tossed in Ragù all'Abruzzese and finished with tiny veal meatballs (“pallottine”), shredded Parmigiano Reggiano, dried chiles, and peperoncino. It is set atop a wooden plank (called a “chitarra”) and served with a pair of pasta scissors allowing diners to take a breath in between bites. Several other dishes are offered tableside like the Branzino Filet, Caesar Salad and Pan-fried Steak Diane.
Breakfast, which is offered from 8am to 11am, features Panettone French Toast in collaboration with award-winning Veneto pasticceria Olivieri 1882, as well as Settepani Bakery’s Maritozzi. The French Toast is made with Roman sweet buns filled with freshly-whipped cream.
Diners will also discover a robust beverage program with inventive cocktails and native Italian wines. Milano Modena serves as Allora’s specialty aperitivo. Inspired by the Milano Torino, the recipe combines Emilia-Romagna’s Lambrusco with Balsamic Vinegar of Modena to create a drink tailor-made for spritz connoisseurs. The wine list offers varietals from Veneto to the volcanic vineyards of Sicily.
This is the second Allora location at 292 Fifth Avenue, New York, NY (646) 928-5198. For more information, visit alloraristorantenyc.com
