Anita Gelato, known for its flavorful gelato and long lines, is opening a third location in New York City. Known officially as Anita La Mamma del Gelato, this family-owned gelateria offers a rotating selection of 150 different flavors of gelato, frozen yogurt, sorbet, and ice cream, including sugar-free and vegan options, all made in-house using Anita’s original recipes.
The Times Square location will offer 36 frozen treats daily that rotate with the seasons. Flavors include Milk Chocolate Salted Pretzel, Crumble Cheesecake with Mixed Berries, Hazelnut Mousse and Chocolate, White Chocolate & Pistachio, Chocolate Almonds and Caramel, Macadamia Cream, and more. There are also 25 different toppings to choose from including fresh fruits, syrups, chocolate, or Anita’s house-made jams.
The store’s interior has a 1950s mid-century modern design with a luminous glass showcase displaying the gelato flavors.
Anita Gelato was started in a Mediterranean kitchen in 1998 by Mama Anita Avital. With the help of her youngest son Nir, Anita would create sweet treats, cakes, and pastries for friends and neighbors to enjoy. Nir, started preparing ice cream bases, to which Anita would add her homemade jams. Soon, Nir began to sell ice cream from a cart at a weekly local market, and it became a huge success, leading to the opening of their first Anita Gelato store in 2002 Since then they have opened branches in Tel Aviv, Barcelona, Brisbane, Cyprus, Los Angeles, Miami, New York, San Juan, Sydney, and London.
The Times Square shop is located at 207 West 45th Street, New York, NY. For more information, visit anita-gelato.com (Official opening set for Nov 1, 2023)
