The art of glass making is now for everyone with the new Shiny Sparkle Labs which just opened in Red Hook, Brooklyn (185 Van Dyke Street). New Yorkers can roll up their sleeves alongside glass artists Matthew Day Perez and Dorie Gutherie and learn the art of glass making--joining together glass pieces at high temperatures in a kiln and melting them together to create a unique work of glass art. Each class will teach students to cut, bend, and sift brightly colored glass to create objects that range from a charcuterie tray or coaster set, to drinking glasses, holiday ornaments, or other hollow vessels. The Lab’s signature class, Fuze & Booze provides a three-to-five-hour introductory class to create a work of glass art while offering the finest Brooklyn libations and snacks courtesy of local purveyors.
