Bar Tulix Brings Coastal Flavors of Mexico to SoHo

Bar Tulix – the new coastal Mexican restaurant from Michelin-starred chef Justin Bazdarich (Oxomoco and Speedy Romeo) and restaurateur John McDonald of Mercer Street Hospitality (Lure Fishbar, Bowery Meat Company, Hancock St. and others) – opens its doors March 4th in SoHo. Influenced by his years of traveling throughout Mexico, Bazdarich is offering a seafood-forward menu highlighting dishes from the coasts of Mexico up through California, ranging from crudos to tostadas, and more.

Bar snacks and starters include Winter Citrus with chili, lime, olive oil and salt, Smoked Shrimp Chicharron, and Farmers Market Escabeche. Oysters with a mezcal mignonette, chile puya oil, and crunch are also available along with Clam Toast in a garlic ancho butter broth. Larger plates bring Masa Encrusted Red Branzino with enpresado; Lobster Cockle with mezcal chili butter, carrots, herbs and brioche; Octopus with fried potatoes, romesco, celery salsa and verde; and Short Rib Arrachera with salsa negra, black bean and flour tortillas.

Tequila-ford cocktails are offered like the Spicy Lady with Milagro blanco, Vida mezcal, cayenne, licor de elote and hibiscus; Mezcal Mamacita with 400 Conejos Mezcal, Aperol, rosemary, grapefruit and lime; and Full of Emotions with Sneaky Fox Vodka, Giffard Lychee, watermelon, lemon and Topo Chico; among others. There are also wines from around the world, as well as craft beer from Mexico.

The space designed by John and James Beard Award-winning design boutique Meyer Davis Studio offers jewel toned banquettes and dark oak booths line high gloss black walls, and are complemented by additional vibrant yellow and green-patterned mid-century seating.
