
On Tuesday November 1, The Nederlander Organization unveiled the new Lena Horne Theatre on Broadway in honor of the iconic entertainer and civil rights activist. The naming of the theater, formerly the Brooks Atkinson, marks the first time a Broadway theatre has been named for a Black woman.

Notable attendees, performers and speakers at the event included the Governor of NY Governor Kathy Hochul, NYC Mayor Eric Adams, Lena Horne’s granddaughterr Jenny Lumet and great grand-children Jake Cannavale and Sasha Weinstein, Audra McDonald, Amanda Green, André De Shields, Brian Stokes Mitchell, Chita Rivera, Kenny Leon, LaChanze, Leslie Uggams, Norm Lewis, Shoshanna Bean, Tamara Tunie, Vanessa Williams, Wendell Pierce, and more.
Horne received a special Tony Award in 1981 for her performance in her solo show, “Lena Horne: The Lady and Her Music.”
