On a quiet Coney Island Street, a short distance away from Luna Park is Hangry Joe's Hot Chicken Hangry Joe’s Hot Chicken where the heat levels are so hot that the chicken sandos comes with a warning. Heat Levels range from “no heat” to “angry hot.” Folks are opting for “angry hot” made with ghost peppers are warned it could “burn your throat and stomach… and even lead to shock!”

We are in nowhere that daring, so we opted for the “mild” which is the jalapeno level and mighty hot on its own. Other options include “medium” fueled by cayenne peppers and “hot” made with your humble habanero, or no heat at all.

Several combos are available. We opted for the Chicken Sando with waffle fries and a drink. The sandwich comes with an extra-large cutlet hanging over a rather small brioche bun with loads of coleslaw, pickles and special sauce. It’s a bit of a messy experience, but after one bite we were sold. If you’re not into super hot, the medium is the way to go.

And don’t pass up the wings from the sweet sticky goodness of the “Wild Zing” to the more traditional Buffalo. The wings are large and range in size from a 6-piece to a 50-piece offering. Sides include creamy mac and cheese and fried okra bites, among others.

If you are brave enough to go for the “Angry Hot” you might just wind up on their Spicy Wall of Fame Spicy Wall of Fame. As far as we know, this is the only location in all of New York, at 2875 W 8th St in Brooklyn. If you are a fan of Nashville-style hot chicken, Hangry Joe’s is the place to try.
