Programming has been announced for L’Alliance New York’s annual “Crossing the Line” festival, to run September 5-December 7, at various locations.
The centerpiece of the festival is an art exhibition, “Glowing Heads,” devoted to the work of Nina Childress, whose vibrant paintings are a testament to her lifelong engagement with portraiture. It will run through January 3.
Performances that will be part of festival are “Jerome Bel” (September 27-28), an “auto-bio-choreo-graphy,” which blends filmed dance documentation, monologue, and a live restaging of this seminal work. Broadway actress April Matthis will portray Bel, who can no longer travel by airplane. Next up (on November 16) is choreographer Marion Muzac’s “Le Petit B,” an immersive experience expressly designed for children.
Finally, on November 22-23, the festival will present “Back and Forth: Dialogues with Painting and Film,” during which painters and filmmakers in France and America will volley back and forth ideas and experimental forms across the canvas and the screen. Films to be screened include Chris Marker’s “Matta ’85,” Alain Resnais’ “Guernica,” and Phillipe Garrel’s “Le Berceau de cristal.”
