Storeowners nearby say this building near 25th Street and Third Avenue in Sunset Park, Brooklyn never received landmark status, and when the new owner moved in, the ornate facade was simply torn off. After searching the web, it appears the building, which resembled a castle, was built in the 1940s. The intricate metal work used to be a green patina color, but over the years was painted white and more recently taxi cab yellow, remnants of which can still be seen around the door.
