Ignacio Mattos Opens Stunning Cocktail Lounge and Corner Bar

Chef Ignacio Mattos, the force behind Lodi at Rockefeller Center and Estela, is leaving his mark on the Lower East Side. Mattos’ group is operating two new spots at Nine Orchard, a meticulously restored Beaux-Arts Building built in 1912 at the corner of Canal and Orchard Street.

One space, the Corner Bar, is a neighborhood spot resembling an American tavern with classic bistro fare like Oysters Rockefeller, Moules (mussels) with fennel and Dijon, Steak Au Poivre with peppercorn sauce, and Spaghetti Pomodoro. Desserts include Glace Americaine, vanilla soft serve with strawberries and Crème Brûlée.

The nearby cocktail lounge is set in an amazing space with an ornate vaulted ceiling with arched windows and chandeliers covered with frosted globes. The space was already buzzing when we stopped in for a peak. A third dining space will reportedly arrive in September. Stay tuned!
