Hand rolls, if you haven’t experienced one, are large uncut sushi rolls made in front of you that are presented individually by the chef. At KazuNori, from the same group behind Sugarfish, they are offered in a number of different sets ranging in price from $17 to $33 dollars. The rolls can also be purchased à la carte.
The hand rolls arrive with assorted fillings – salmon, crab, yellowtail, toro, bay scallop and Lobster – which can be purchased in sets, as well as specialty items like albacore sashimi, toro sashimi and New Zealand sea bream. Here the nori, or seaweed paper, that surrounds each roll is warm and slightly crispy as you take that first bite. The rolls are served with ginger, wasabi and soy sauce on the side. Everything we tried was excellent. Assorted Japanese beers and sake are also available. Service is very welcoming. Gratuity is included.
KazuNori is located inside The Hugh food hall at 601 Lexington Ave, New York, NYK
