Celebrity Chef and Food Network Star Marcus Samuelsson and Chef Rose Noël have opened Hav & Mar, a new seafood centric restaurant in New York City's Chelsea neigborhood. The restaurant celebrates Samuelsson's Swedish and African roots with a festive menu and creative cocktail program.

The meal starts with roti and oat porridge crisps served with assorted dips including eggplant, cucumber yogurt and fermented honey butter. From the raw bar comes the Black Mermaid, a tower of seafood featuring poached lobster, blue shrimp, charred octopus salad, oysters and more.

There are small plates for sharing like a Seafood Waffle with rock shrimp and uni butter, Crispy Yucca with tahini honey sauce, Corn Wrapped Snapper with crispy coconut rice, and Hamachi with Black Ceviche. Larger plates include Cheeks Lasagna with kobe beef cheek, chanterelle and ricotta, and H&T Roasted Chicken with brussels sprouts and radish. Family plates bring Crispy Brook Trout for 2 and the Grand Jubilee with roasted chicken, mussels, Maine lobster, tumeric rice and lemon. Desserts feature Corn Husk Chocolate Pudding with horchata ice cream and an Apple Persimmon Crisp with tumeric anglaise.

Cocktails include playful libations like the Jet Set (Caribbean & Indonesian rum, hibiscus, yuzu, Swedish punsch, pineapple, and lime), and Woman King (Casa Dragones Reposado Tequila, yellow chartreuse, spiced pear, palo santo, and grapefruit oil). There is also Aquavit, the Nordic spirit flavored with caraway and savory spices.

The space is filled with colorful artwork by Brooklyn artist Derrick Adams whose cental figure is a mystical mermaid designed to set the tone for the restaurant and feed the imagination.

Hav & Mar is located at 245 11th Ave, New York, NY (212) 328-8041
