Hot Soup & Bad Larry’s Sandwiches is shaking things up on Orchard Street, thanks to a dream team of food pros. Reid Webster, who left fine dining behind to chase his pizza and bread-making passion, teamed up with Russell Marcus of Hot Soup, and together they’re serving comfort food that’s big on flavor.
The menu is short and sweet: two soups, four sandwiches daily, and a handful of classic drinks and sides. Their soups include a vegan Red Lentil with caramelized shallots and celery root, and a rich Gold Chicken Broth with yuzu kosho and kombu. The sandwich lineup is just as satisfying, with options like Chicken Salad with tarragon and buttermilk, Roasted Pork with pickled daikon and spicy mustard, and the new Sweet Potato Sandwich—a tasty combo of charred sweet potato, frisée, smoked maple vinaigrette, and serrano for a little heat.
All sandwiches come on fresh focaccia, baked daily in the old Scarr’s Pizza ovens. Open Thursday to Sunday from noon to 4:30 p.m., this spot is a perfect go-to for a quick and satisfying lunch.
