POPULAR OPENS AT THE PUBLIC HOTEL

The Public Hotel (215 Chrystie Street) has announced the opening of Popular, its new restaurant featuring a menu of globally-inspired food and beverage created by two world-class culinary stars, Chef Diego Muñoz of Lima, Peru, and Chef John Fraser of New York City, who have been brought together by hotelier Ian Schrager. The restaurant has both indoor and outdoor seating.

Munoz’s culinary program celebrates Peru’s authentic, multicultural cuisine that seamlessly blends Incan, Spanish, Moorish, African, Italian, Chinese and Japanese contributions. Among the many dishes are Ceviche Nikkei, made with ahi tuna, miso, aji panca amd shiso; Papa Huancaína, made with aji amarillo, hen egg and botija olives; and a Wood Smoked Paella with clams, mussels and a parihuela broth. Brunch offerings include a Horchata French toast and a quinoa stir fry.

The inventive cocktail list includes nine libations made with Pisco, including a Pisco Sour with puro quebranta, lime, egg white and angostura; the Sandia Salada with acholado, fresh watermelon, mint & lemongrass tea and turmeric salt; and the Capitan with mosto verde italia, vermouth rosso and campari cherry. The extensive wine list features 19 wines by the glass and more than 90 by the bottle and include sherry and sake.
